Nordstrom Rack Designer Sale

Hello all! Today we're getting some much needed rain in the Los Angeles area, so I thought I'd use this rainy day as an opportunity to let you all in on a designer sale at Nordstrom Rack that is currently underway.
Nordstrom Rack is advertising designer prices 50-75% off. I stopped in not knowing quite what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised at the affordable prices. I steered clear of the pricier items (like Oscar de la Renta and such) and stuck to designers that struck my fancy. Here's what I tried! (Note: the pieces I picked up were either size 0, XS, or 25. I saw mostly small and large sizes, and not a whole lot in between).

I like this Current/Elliot studded denim shirt, which I tried in a size 0. I never really embraced the denim shirt trend, so this would have been my first. I LOVE the stud detail on the collar, and the little shoulder plackets. This definitely has expensive details (and no wonder, it was originally $198.00!) I liked the medium wash, and the breast pockets. I liked the slim fit and the length. My only complaint was that maybe the sleeves seemed a little bit wide. I kind of loved this shirt, but for $64, I just really couldn't justify it. I'm not crazy about the denim-on-denim look, and I wear jeans almost every day, so this shirt wouldn't get a lot of wear in my wardrobe. But for someone looking to spend on a quality denim shirt, I have to say this is the way to go. Swing by your Rack and check it out. Get it On Sale for $89.10 here!

I like Rag and Bone denim, and these in a size 25 didn't disappoint. They were definitely more jegging than jean, with a soft, almost suede-like texture. They were a deep wine purple color, although lighter in person than on camera. There was an interesting ankle zipper detail that I liked because I didn't ever feel the zipper on my skin (although it's a hard detail to see). They lay very flat against the leg, which is a must, and only buckled the tiniest bit in the back (leaving those horizontal line down the back of the leg, which I loathe). These were SUPER comfortable, but I did notice they were a tiny bit saggy in the rear, which probably has something to do with the cut of the back pockets, so ultimately I passed. Also,  even though they were majorly reduced, I didn't feel like spending $65 on colored denim.

I couldn't find any version of this Theory jacket online, but Nordstrom Rack had quite a few in stock. This particular jacket came in a 00, so it was cut very small. In theory, I liked it (maybe that's where the brand name comes from, ha), especially the casualness and ease of the fabric, which had a vinyl feel to it. I think that may have been part of the problem, though, that it felt almost a little bit sloppy because the fabric wrinkled so easily. I'm a sucker for moto-style jackets, so I liked the cut of this one. I wasn't a big fan of the zippers on the front (although I get that it was supposed to give the jacket a utility feel, which is all the rage right now) but I felt it cheapened the jacket somehow. Also the shirt I was wearing that day had an asymmetrical hem, which definitely didn't mesh with the symmetry of the moto cut. So I passed, but I thought this jacket had a lot of potential.

I really can't tell you how much I love this jacket. It's probably the ombre sleeves that really make it look so special and expensive to me. The detail is really impressive. Seeing it online for $388 makes me wish I'd snagged it at $104, but I'm a serious cheapskate, and while the jacket is gorgeous, it really offers minimal warmth (it's unlined) for the price. Yeah, I live in California where the mean temperature seems like 75 degrees, but I would've liked a little bit more substance.

In terms of structure, the jacket cinches at the waist via two strings on the inside, so the width is adjustable. The sleeves are a little bit stiff and textured because of whatever substance or dye was used to get the ombre effect. The pockets on the lower half of the torso were really interesting, almost like little pouches rather than pockets. My ONLY complaint was the number of pockets made it feel very African safari, which I could've done without. All in all, I really like this jacket, and I fear that my hunt for the perfect utility jacket might've reached its peak here. This is one of the few pieces of clothing I've seen in person that I've had a visceral reaction to.

If your Nordstrom Rack doesn't have any left, here's One left on sale for $129!

Out of everything I tried, I wanted to like these the best (because they were under $50, and because I don't own any green denim, but desperately want some). From the front they're okay. I like the little horizontal pocket detail on the front, and I liked the shade of green (I'd call it hunter?). They fit nicely, and had a good amount of stretch. From the rear and the side, the fabric didn't lay flat at all. I'm not sure if sizing up would've improved the situation (that wasn't an option, they didn't have a 26, but they didn't feel too small otherwise). The length was great (I'm almost 5'4, and I love when I have to cuff jeans because they're on the long side. There's nothing worse than short jeans). I've never tried Vince denim before, so I'm not sure if the quality is questionable, or if this particular pair was the exception, but I wasn't very impressed.

Get them here for $117.

This Current/Elliot Varsity Jacket was the last item I tried, but I didn't photograph because it came out too boxy to even take seriously. They didn't have a size 0, so I tried a size 1, and it was just too large. I've found that the varsity style is often cut rather square, and that happened to be the case with this particular jacket. I like the leather collar and sleeves (I didn't check to verify that it was real leather, I just assumed that for the $488 price tag, it would be, but if that matters, you should definitely check the product details before purchasing).

In all, most of the items were discounted 67%, and although I left empty-handed, I was very impressed by the quality of the items. These weren't all ill-fitting rejects that Nordstrom is trying to dump off. There were some really nice pieces there at awesome discounts. I look forward to going back for the next designer sale, when hopefully I'll have a bigger budget and can purchase an item or two guilt-free! If you haven't been to your local Nordstrom Rack this week, I recommend popping in and seeing what's left of the designer sale!
